People Change

***Recently, while going through the family home after losing my mother to Covid, I came across the writing of my great-grandmother, Minnie Louise Bumphrey, who was a published writer and poet. Over the next few days I will be sharing her works on my blog. People Change is the first one I’ve chosen to share.***

People change and the seasons too, some days sunny some days blue.

But the rivers roll on in the same old way, endlessly on, every day.

The seasons come and the seasons go, sunshine and rain or ice and snow.

Each Spring everything comes new once more, new leaves on the trees, new grass round the door.

And inside the home the clock ticks away the hours of happiness or grief each day.

Yes, the clock ticks on through days and years, through heartaches or happiness, smiles or tears.

The same as the river, it changes never, but goes on and on, ever and ever.

And man is born and passes away, he comes and he goes, he has his day.

But the clock ticks on as the river flows and man with all his wisdom comes then goes.
